We practice vodou all over the globe, but has its origins on the continent of Africa. While the major centers of Vodou practice exist today in Haiti, West Africa and Louisiana. We can find vodou in every country and Vodou-derived religions, like Santeria and Palo Mayombe. The word “Vodou” is taken from the Fon “Vodun,” literally “Spirit.”To clarify Vodou is rooted in the beleif in one Creator God, Bondye, or “Good God,” and many spirits that interact daily with human beings. Vodou is the oldest religion known to mankind and doctrines are found in all major world religions. Contrary to fundamentalist doctrine, Vodou can be practiced alongside Christianity. We do strongly beleive that the majority of Vodouisants are also devout Christians of both Catholic and Protestant denomination. The belief in a single Creator God. Vodou is also known as “Sevis Lwa” or Service to the Lwa, and those who practice Vodou are called Vodouisants. A person does not need to be initiated into Vodou to be a Vodouisant and serve his or her head Lwa or ancestors.  |
